This workshop provides the knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. It is suitable for those who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Students must be at least 14 years old and will be asked to undertake a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy test prior to attending the course to meet ACSF level 3.
The assessment criteria require students to demonstrate the ability to correctly perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor. This program is delivered as a blended mixed-mode program that includes classroom study and independent learning.
Before attending the one-day (9 AM—3 PM) workshop, students must complete their pre-class assessment, which can be done in one sitting or over time. Depending on the student’s learning ability, they should allow up to 6 hours for reading resources and completing the pre-class assessment.
The following two modules are included in this course:
1. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
2. HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
It applies to persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations,
including community and workplace settings.
The following topics are covered:
Witten, practical and scenario-based assessment.
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends:
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation – renew every 12 months (1 year)
HLTAID011 provide first aid – review every 36 months (3 years)
Usually not applicable for this course but please consult with Quest staff if you wish to apply.
